Richard encouraged producers to engage early if they have concerns around contracts or supply chain relationships

Richard Thompson, the Agriculture Supply Chain Adjudicator, was introduced to producers during the BFREPA forum as the industry prepares for the introduction of new egg sector fair dealing regulations.

Speaking at the event, Richard explained that while the egg regulations are not yet in force, his office is already operating within the dairy and pig sectors, where similar supply chain regulations have already been introduced.

He encouraged producers to engage early if they have concerns around contracts or supply chain relationships, stressing that early discussions can often help resolve issues before they escalate into formal disputes or complaints.

Richard said one of the key lessons from the dairy and pig sectors so far is the importance of hearing about concerns early, adding that there is often “a lot we can do to help parties resolve disputes earlier on”.

BFREPA is now arranging a series of farm visits for Richard to help him gain a closer understanding of the egg sector and producer concerns. Producers interested in taking part are encouraged to contact BFREPA chief executive Gary Ford.

While Richard is keen to hear from producers experiencing contract concerns or supply chain difficulties, he made clear that he is not yet able to intervene in disputes within the egg sector until the new regulations formally come into force.
