BFREPA Price Survey - June 2023
Published on : 5 Jun 2023

Most producers already follow the ADAS cost of production in part or full, but we need to be transparent with calculations.
Reviewing the costings with ADAS through producer and packer comments at the BFREPA roadshows is moving with pace. While producers are now benefiting from higher egg prices, it is essential that we still move forward with improving the accuracy of the ADAS cost of production information which members see printed at the back of the Ranger.Nobody wants to see a return to boom and bust, so we must make clear to retailers that producers cannot produce below the cost of production and that a margin is needed for future welfare investment and to ensure a healthy and sustainable industry. The egg industry already supports these costings with the cost split between BFREPA and NEMAL. But we need to go further and get them agreed upon by the retail sector while the market favours the egg producer. Most producers already follow the ADAS cost of production in part or full, but we need to be transparent with calculations.ADAS hopes to complete all this with annotations by the end of July.An ADAS post-peak diet has been formulated based on 42 weeks, and the list of which feed mills are supplying into this is currently with ADAS; those feed mills supplying into the COP will all supply to the same specifications. The costings are all independent of BFREPA, so BFREPA will NOT know what data has been supplied to ADAS.Egg PricesBFREPA will look for producers weighted to free range throughput for each packer to supply prices into ADAS. BFREPA will continue to survey members about prices, which will act as a double check to verify ADAS data, and anonymised data will be available in the BFREPA login area when completed. No personal data will be collected or disclosed. The survey is confidential and needs to be completed before the 19th of June 2023.The following statement was provided to BFREPA by ADAS:-ADAS put together the Free Range and Organic costs of production and average egg prices that are printed on a monthly basis in the Ranger magazine. Individual cost items such as feed and pullet and egg prices are reviewed each month. These are then used to calculate the monthly costs of production and margins. ADAS rely on contributions from producers and others to gather this information which is treated with the utmost confidentiality. Individual figures received are not passed on to BFREPA.ADAS are currently looking to revise the list of producer contacts who contribute to the egg price figures. In order to do so, they are enlisting BFREPA’s help to recruit producers to share their egg prices with ADAS each month. In this case, BFREPA will be aware of who the contributors are, however, any figures sent to ADAS will continue to be treated with confidentiality and not shared with anyone. Your contribution would be very much appreciated as it would add to the accuracy and robustness of the costings. If any member wants to contribute to this scheme, you can email keith.wild@bfrepa.co.uk We will forward your email address to ADAS but will NOT know who ADAS has selected to supply data. Only disclose information about your email address and willingness to contribute to the scheme.
