BFREPA board director Lucy Hinch and Greg Marsh of ForFarmers outlined plans for the new industry development programme

BFREPA officially launched its new Layer Academy during the association’s forum event, with board director Lucy Hinch and Greg Marsh of ForFarmers outlining plans for the new industry development programme.

The BFREPA Layer Academy, sponsored by ForFarmers UK, has been created to support ambitious people working within the free range egg sector, including producers, flock managers, pullet rearers and allied industry professionals.

Introducing the initiative, Lucy Hinch described the academy as an opportunity for participants to expand their knowledge, build industry connections and develop a wider understanding of the egg supply chain.

Over a 12 month period, academy members will take part in industry visits and events across the UK, covering all stages of production from hatcheries and feed mills through to packing centres and retail.

The programme will also focus on leadership, networking and professional development, with participants expected to meet producers, nutritionists, retailers and other key industry figures. Plans for a possible European study tour are also being explored.

Speaking during the launch, organisers said the academy is designed to help develop the next generation of leaders within the free range egg sector.
