Adding value to waste egg

Waste egg being transferred to EggKo's pasteurisation plant

A new UK company has been established to deal with waste egg from packers and hatcheries.

Based in Worcestershire, EggKo, provides storage equipment on customers’ sites before collecting and transporting the product to its processing centre. Here it is then pasteurised with the finished product being used in animal and pet feeds. Historically this egg would be disposed of as a waste product and incurring a cost for disposal. By recovering this waste egg and adding value through pasteurisation, EggKo is able to turn what was a cost into an income stream for its customers. The process also brings about an improvement in carbon footprint by converting a one-time waste product into a valuable protein source.

A spokesperson for the company said that to date, UK packer & hatcheries have been very supportive of this home-grown startup business.

EggKo will be exhibiting at this year’s Pig & Poultry Fair on Stand 12-802 and can be contacted on 01527 277918 or office@eggko.co.uk.
