Join us for an informative afternoon on reducing the threats of salmonella in your flock.

 

Listen to keynote speakers on the history of the Lion Code, pest control and the benefits of vaccination. Practical on-farm food safety solutions will be discussed and general debate will conclude a highly educational session.

 

The programme starts at 12.00 midday with a lunch reception at
CAFRE Loughry College, Cookstown, Northern Ireland

History and Update on Relevance of Lion Code,
with Mark Williams

Mark is Chief Executive of the British Egg Industry Council

Mark is a poultry farmer’s son. After studying at Harper Adams Agricultural College in Shropshire, he managed a large pullet rearing / egg production unit. Following gaining valuable experience, he returned home to expand the business. In 1991, he joined the National Farmers’ Union as a Regional Poultry Adviser in the north of England. In 1995, he was appointed National Egg Specialist. He joined the British Egg Industry Council in 1999 and became Chief Executive in 2000.

Mark’s additional roles include: Secretary-General of EUWEP (the EU trade association for egg packers, egg traders and egg processors) (since 1999). He is currently the President of the EU Civil Dialogue Group on Poultry and Eggs. He is a Board member of CELCAA (the EU liaison committee for the food trade). He was President of the European Commission’s Advisory Group on ‘Poultrymeat and Eggs’ from 2010 to 2012.

Solving Salmonella – a Holistic Approach,
with James Horner

James is the Elanco UK Poultry Technical Consultant

James is one of two veterinary surgeons working within the Elanco poultry team. James graduated from the University of Liverpool in 2011 with distinction, holds a Certificate of Advanced Veterinary Practice from the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, and has recently submitted his dissertation to gain an MBA from Warwick University.

From graduation, prior to joining the Elanco poultry team earlier this year, James had been working in practice with a wide variety of species attending both production animals and companion animals.

As a UK Poultry Technical Consultant, James’ responsibilities include supporting both the team and clients with the technical aspects of the entire Elanco UK portfolio, as well as undertaking client focused projects.

Reducing Salmonella Risk in Poultry Through Improved Pest Control, with Clive Boase

Clive Boase, The Pest Management Company

Clive Boase has spent most of his working life involved with pests of public and animal health importance, in the UK and overseas. He initially worked for a series of multi-national companies on the development and evaluation of novel pesticides. Subsequently he established the Pest Management Consultancy, which provides independent technical support to a wide range of organisations concerned with these pests.

Recent projects include work with national regulatory agencies involved with pests in livestock, with local regulators, with multinational pesticide manufacturers, as well as with individual livestock units. As a result, Clive has acquired a well-rounded perspective on invertebrate problems in livestock.

Rodent Control Refresher, with Brady Hudson

Brady Hudson, Killgerm

Brady has a comprehensive chemistry background, particularly within metallurgy and coatings for aeronautical and premium automotive industries due to her experience working in formulation and client services. Following this, Brady entered the pest control industry in 2006, working for a large manufacturing company of rodenticides.

Brady is knowledgeable within her field, obtaining her RSPH Level 2 Pest Management award, with practical experience in both urban and farm control. In 2017, she joined Killgerm as the Business Development Manager, looking after key accounts and projects.

Food Safety Program – On Farm Experiences,
with Jim Wilson

Jim Wilson, Regional Contract Manager at Noble Foods

Jim has worked in commercial poultry for eight years now, starting as a farm worker in a colony cage unit in Shropshire while studying for his degree in Agriculture with Animal Science at Harper Adams. Upon graduation he relocated to Essex to become an Assistant Farm Manager with an integrated turkey company. During his time there he progressed through the company to become a Breeding Farm Manager, while also having spent time managing the processing plant and various free range commercial units. During this time he also started studying his masters degree in Intensive Livestock Health and Production at the Royal Veterinary College of London in his spare time.

Three years ago he then took a change of direction, becoming a Regional Farm Manager at Noble foods where he has since finished his masters. Jim now looks after 41 free range farms in the south west of England.
